- Accidents are GOING to happen. As a mom you need to have a first aid kits around (multiple if you live in a larger home), especially if you have BOYS!
- Don’t freak out about anything. Your kids watch what you do and that’s how they gage how they should behave. Unless it’s a dangerous situation…(ie. they are about to touch the hot stove), in this case scream as loud as possible, scare them, and interrupt that behavior FAST!
- Never underestimate the speed of a child. You will be amazed at how far a child can travel in SECONDS! So keep an eye on them OFTEN to keep them safe, and to keep them close by.
- Never have your kids get into the habit of talking to strangers. Kids LOVE TO TALK and they will talk to strangers and tell them way more than they need to know. Child predators are a real thing and any information your child gives to them makes their job easier.
- Make sure your child knows their home address and your cell phone number in case they are ever lost and need to tell authorities (and this is why you don’t want them talking to strangers).
- Have your children know to dial 9-1-1 when there is an emergency.
- If your child starts crying or is scared of a person that comes nearby, pay attention to that. Children have an amazing ability to read people! Don’t encourage them to get comfortable with someone thats giving them a dangerous signal.
- If you live in a cold area, always make sure you have lots of blankets in the car, in case your car breaks down or you get stuck somewhere in a snow storm.
- In warmer temperatures, always have water around for a child so they never get too warm and over heat, especially if the air conditioning breaks.
- Practice common sense. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Better to over prepare than to under prepare. If something happens to your child—you can never go back and change that. So it’s better to take the extra precautions.
